Eve’s Bayou (Mozelle Batiste Delacroix)

Last night, I had a dream that I was flying. It was such a fine feeling, but in the corner of my eye, I saw a woman drowning in the very same air that was keeping me afloat. And I knew without looking that it was me. Should I save her? Then I heard Louis’ voice saying, “Don’t look back.” So I kept on flying and I let her drown. When I woke up, I told Julian I would marry him. He wouldn’t have it any other way. Maybe God will be kind and allow me to go with him. I’m so tired of being left alone. Your daddy gave me a message for you. “Tell Eve I still owe her that dance.”
